THERAPUETIC APPROACHES USED

How Approaches are Used

As an integrative counsellor, I draw from a variety of approaches and methods. This means you can tackle issues and distress from many angles, helping to bring more effective, faster and more in depth healing and discovery. I also encourage you to use every method in a positive and curious way - why should you not enjoy this journey of discovery?! To really feel how you can become inquisitive, hopeful, and enjoy looking after yourself!

Some of The Approaches:

Humanistic - Gets to the heart of the matter, directed by you, looking at your current state, needs, values, beliefs - focusing on how you see it and how you would prefer it.

CBT - Focuses on thought awareness, challenging negative or distorted thinking that is unhelpful, unrealistic, working towards weakening old patterns to create positive, self compassionate inner talk.

Psychodynamic - Use of insights that create understanding from your past and looking at present emotional affect. Inner child work can be utilised here also- which simply helps to soften or dissolve the harmful memory hold using self compassion, and reframing the events in a kind and understanding way,  Conditions are created that were not available to you to aid positive healing. This regains your sense of self goodness, worthiness, and capability.

Mindfulness - Is incorporated alongside relaxation, breathing, and grounding techniques, given at the start of therapy to provide you with tools to strengthen your self care, create clarity, relieve anxious and stressed states and begin to break up overthinking, to become clearer, calmer, more productive, and positive in outlook. It helps you to really value the here and now...as it is.

Positive Psychology and Self Compassion - These will help you to focus on your strengths, positives, and to become aware of weaknesses and see these as opportunities which may even become areas of strength or wisdom! They also increase awareness of gratitude - to what you have and love - sometimes we just overlook these!!

A holistic approach is encouraged, that includes exercise, diet, sleep, all of which are proven in studies to have a direct impact on our psychological health, including stress, anxiety and depression.

Together these approaches are a very effective and positive way to really begin to see change - TO CREATE THE LIFE YOU LOVE!

"The privelege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are"
Carl Gustav Jung.
